MECI's mission is to address the educational, psychosocial, health and other basic humanitarian needs of Middle Eastern children and women in both war-torn and impoverished areas.
Through MECI, children and women are given a safe-space, coping mechanisms to develop and thrive as well as tools towards building a strong future civil society and working towards peace.
MECI's innovative child-centered community development model is facilitating transformational change in communities through programs based on a three-pillared approach:
MECI also works in areas of emergency, where it has shaped its response to the Syrian refugee crisis according to the most urgent needs including the lack of schooling for refugee children. MECI has developed and implemented academic programs combined with psychosocial healing programs in arts and sports. Informal and remedial education encourages broader community participation through awareness session and youth-led community engagement activities.
The Middle East Children's Institute is transforming entire communities and giving children a new start.
