We are pleased to share with you the following important report on the positive impact the Middle East Children's Institute (MECI) is having on the children and women who are the beneficiaries of the program. The MECI community development program is inspiring hope where little exists, building future leaders, and civil society in an area of conflict, the Middle East, and investment in MECI is yielding high returns for us all.
The following has been achieved in the last year:
Initiated a partnership with the Barenboim-Said music conservatory program allowing 28 girls to take violin, cello, flute and clarinet lessons. Four MECI counselors received training in advanced music instruction and training has begun for a boys' chorus with 45 MECI boys.
Most important, children are confident, believe in themselves, have shown significant academic improvement, and women are growing as agents of change through MECI empowerment opportunities.
MECI opened in 2007 and this is just a sample of what the MECI holistic comprehensive model of community development has achieved with your help. We are honored to enthusiastically share with you a few of the many accomplishments taking place at MECI. Without your support, none of this would be possible and all of us at MECI thank you for your generosity.
MECI is dependent solely upon the generous support of individuals and family foundations, many whom are our friends and family. We are very proud to report that for the third year in a row MECI is the recipient of a community grant of $12,500 from the International Monetary Fund (IMF). After a thorough and rigorous independent evaluation process, MECI is the only program in the West Bank receiving such grants from the IMF. Such grants sadly are few and far between, so we depend on you to instill hope through education.
