Since 2007, MECI has been conducting its Comprehensive After-School and Summer Camp program in the West Bank’s Bani Zaid municipality in order to improve the academic and psychosocial well-being of youth, while also training them to be community leaders and agents of peace. MECI program has served thousands of children and provided them with positive outlets in art, music, sports, and group therapy to express their emotions, as well as remedial education to improve their academic outcomes. MECI’s activities offer students an alternative to violence, and build critical foundational steps towards shaping future leaders.

MECI’s programs in Palestine currently serve a primary girls school, a primary boys school, and a secondary girls school. Starting this year, MECI is expanding its After-School and Summer Camp program to include an After-School Boys Club grades 7-10 for 310 students in a secondary boys school in the West Bank. Applying lessons learned from MECI’s Comprehensive After-School and Summer Camp program, The adolescent boys will benefit from individual academic support, sports, arts, as well as health, environment and life skills and entrepreneurship workshops. MECI’s Boys Club Program will not only provide access to various positive activities, but will create a system of support where boys in the secondary school gain find strength within their counselors, within each other, and within their community. In addition to psychosocial support, adolescent boys require positive educational activities to occupy their time after school, build their personalities and self-confidence, and learn critical skills needed to become agents of peace.
