“I Have a Dream” MECI Summer Camp
August 1, 2016
During MECI's Summer Camp Program in the West Bank, over 250 Palestinian children are finding joy in art, sports, music and drama! While MECI emphasizes fun, our teachers also use creative ways to integrate important lessons into activities. This year's theme is "I Have a Dream" and students are encouraged to use their imaginations through drama and music, express themselves and their emotions through art, and learn to solve problems as a team through sports such as soccer, badminton, and gymnastics. With several sessions on health and the environment, MECI teachers emphasize the importance of self-care and responsability over the environment. Students face the summer heat through field trips to the pool, and engage the community through community service and perfomances for parents.
Building on MECI's long-term goal of shaping the next generation of leaders, MECI's university scholarship recipients have returned to Beit Rima to volunteer with and mentor younger students. MECI's psychologist is also working closely with 5-6 year-old girls and boys who are beginning 1st grade in the fall to integrate and prepare them for a future of learning. MECI ensures that summer is a productive enjoyable time for all ages in the community!
