It’s official, MECI’s INGO registration for Palestine was finalised on April 2nd, 2018 enabling it to independently operate and manage its programs in the West Bank. After many years of working with implementation partners, MECI took the decision in 2017 to begin the process to establish itself as an INGO on the ground, to ensure better quality and impact for its programs.
MECI also welcomed Mr. Mohammed Said, the new Palestine Program Director responsible for overseeing and managing MECI’s integrated, multifaceted child-centered community development model in Beit Rima and its expansion to other communities where the needs are greatest. More info on Mohammed can be found in the MECI Team section: www.mecinstitute.org/OurTeam. Mohammed is also in the process of recruiting a team of education and psychosocial specialists to support MECI’s important work.
After an extensive and comprehensive audit and review of its programs in Beit Rima in consultation with the community stakeholders and the Ministry of Education, MECI launched its after-school activities program in Beit Rima to deliver a brand new holistic education program for students ages 6-17 years in four schools.
The program restart was warmly welcomed by the entire Beit Rima community but especially the children, youth and counsellors who are taking full advantage of the five-week program leading into exams. Participation in all the activities across all age groups has been overwhelming! The new program includes psycho-social support, art, drama, music, sports, environment science, chess, yoga, cooking and community service.
