Over the years she became a role model, inspiring her peers and her community with her dedication to learning. In June 2024, MECI proudly celebrated Ru’a as our very first medical graduate. She even traveled to Florida to complete her electives, becoming the first girl from her village to achieve this milestone. Only months later, tragedy struck when her two brothers, Jawad and Thafer, were fatally shot on November 29. The loss shook her family and the entire community. Yet, even in the face of unimaginable pain, Ru’a’s resilience never faltered. From a young age she joined MECI’s afterschool program, where she built the values of perseverance, leadership, and community service. She volunteered at MECI’s internet café during the pandemic to help children continue their classes, and later taught English to younger students struggling to catch up. This June, Heba graduated as a medical doctor from Al-Quds University. Along the way, she maintained outstanding academic results, joined medical conferences, and led health awareness campaigns. Heba is now preparing for her licensing exam and is committed to serving her community as its first doctor.
