OUR MODEL

Ever since its launch in 2007, MECI has aimed to bring hope, peace and prosperity to struggling communities in the Middle East through a range of comprehensive and innovative programs.

Our programs focus on children’s education and wellbeing, women’s empowerment and economic and community development. MECI hires locally to help the community generate income and buys locally to stimulate the community’s economy.

MECI’s presence is felt though community services tailored to each community’s needs.

Over the years, we have measured our impact in numbers but also in the many success stories shared with us by the children, young adults and women whose lives have been changed through MECI’s programs.

Jordan

In 2014, MECI established a regional office in Jordan implementing a remedial education program for Syrian refugees. In 2019, it launched the Non-Formal Education Program, enabling out of school adolescent to go back to education. MECI Jordan works in partnership with UNICEF and the Jordanian Government (Ministry of Education and Social Development) bringing education to Jordan’s most destitute children including a significant portion of refugee children.

To date, the program has worked through a school based network, peaking at 49 schools across the country, serving over 20,000 children and youth. From January 2022, the Ministry of Education has assumed responsibility for delivery of all adolescent NFE as a permanent part of its programs, an important outcome for Jordanian youth at risk and a testament to MECI’s impact. MECI will continue to work in Jordan on the next set of challenges facing highly marginalized children - NFE for very young children, and Remedial Education programs, centered on healing. Both of these will address the emerging long term negative impacts of COVID exclusion from school in 2020 and 2021.
