At MECI, we admire the dedication, commitment and resilience MECI students put into their journey of learning and hope. We are also particularly proud of the potential some of our students show and their consistent achievements. This inspired us to establish a MECI University Scholarship program in 2015 to support our most promising and most financially vulnerable female students in pursuing their dreams.

As of 2019, the MECI University Scholarship program has also started offering the same opportunity to outstanding young male students. Considering that the majority of our students come from families with very limited resources, this scholarship program is vital in helping our stars reach their fullest potential.

The MECI University Scholarship program closely follows the trajectory of students from the minute they enroll in MECI’s Comprehensive After-School Program. Students are selected for the scholarship based on their academic achievements, community leadership and financial needs. Personal essays and recommendations from teachers are also taken into consideration during the selection process. To help them become the leaders of tomorrow, MECI students receive an annual scholarship of $3,500, which covers one year’s tuition.

Today, despite disadvantaged beginnings, our high achieving students are pursuing degrees ranging from medicine and physics to journalism, law, and business administration. They have committed themselves to playing an active role in MECI’s Summer Peace Camp program as well as other community service activities. Not only is this their way of giving back to their community but it is also our way of preparing them for future leadership positions.

Having people that believe in me, doing everything they can to donate for someone who is a complete stranger because they believe in her potential, is one of the greatest things to be done. The greatest motivation I have is keeping MECI proud. Every time I’m down or feeling hopeless, I just think of MECI and the donors helping us. Then, I regain all the positive energy in the world!
