MECI Receives Peace Award from the UN - Mandated University for Peace (UPEACE)
During MECI’s 20th Anniversary Peace Concert, we were honoured to receive the Peace Award from the University for Peace (UPEACE), created by the UN General Assembly to promote education for peace around the world.
This recognition highlights MECI’s commitment to protecting education and supporting the dignity and resilience of children and families in the West Bank.
In his remarks, Vice-Rector Juan Carlos Sainz-Borgo shared:
“The University for Peace was created 45 years ago by the United Nations General Assembly with a mandate to train people in the promotion of peace. When we evaluated MECI’s work, the results were remarkable, a model that fosters dignity, resilience, and hope in an incredibly challenging context.”
We are deeply grateful for this meaningful recognition and for our growing partnership with UPEACE.
As MECI enters its third decade, we remain committed to expanding safe learning spaces, psychosocial support, and opportunities for children and women during this critical moment in the region’s history.
